ACADEMIC POLICIES
Grading:
Standards Mastery 40%
Assessments 60%
Trabajo Independiente (Standards Mastery AKA Independent Work)
Homework – Assigned independent practice must be turned in by the beginning of the period (this includes online homework in Google Classroom or Blend). Independent practice is designed to reinforce the skills learned in class, and completing it on time is integral to succeeding in class.
Daily Work – Daily practice is crucial for success in a foreign language class. Each day you will have many opportunities to practice what you are learning and learn while you are practicing and be expected to work from bell to bell. There will be various in class activities including a productivity grade (Página de Estampas) where students earn stamps by demonstrating their growing proficiency in Spanish by speaking in class, contributing answers, etc.
Exámenes (Assessments AKA Exams and Stamp Project) Formal evaluations will be given at the end of each six weeks, mid-term, and final. There are three in total: a listening/reading exam, written exam, and oral exam. The stamp assignment is a six weeks long project where the students immerse themselves in the target language. Due to the variations of grading periods lengths in the school calendar, the assignment will still be due at the end of the six weeks.
Extra Credit The only extra credit in class is to do additional stamp assignments from the stamps worksheet. Students are required to work on stamp activities during the course of the six weeks. The stamps activity is actually an assessment grade that students give themselves. Students who go above and beyond to collect more stamps from the required 15 will receive extra credit.
Make-Up Work for Excused Absences and Late Work Policy: Late work can be done for FULL CREDIT. However, that work must be completed during a morning tutorial or a FIT session.
Re-takes: Students will be allowed to retake their exam if they scored below a 70. Students are allowed one retake and the higher grade will be taken. All daily work must be completed before the student can do a retake.
